In the game Loddlenaut, you take on the role of an interstellar custodian who cleans up pollution left by a mega corporation on an alien planet. Sounds familiar? There is something really satisfying about cleaning up floating litter, microplastics and gloop in an underwater environment. Plus watching the transformation caused by all your hard work.
Along the way you encounter Loddles, simple cute creatures who help you to pollinate and cleanse the planets ecosystem. You feed the baby Loddles, watch them through their metamorphosis into adults, entertain them and pat them. Once a region is completely free of all pollution, you introduce the Loddles to the biome and they reproduce and fend for themselves.
As you collect trash, you can convert it into usable bits which you can trade for more oxygen, lights, vacuum cleaner, new wetsuits etc etc. There is bit of management to do here and being the first game I've played of this type, it took me a while to get the hang of it. There is quite a bit of travelling around, but once you have portable oxygen rings, things become easier to manage. Once you 100% a biome, fast travel is introduced between certain locations.
I found the game quite addictive and time just whizzed by and twice I was up at 2am in the morning not having a clue how late it was!! It is such a cute and wholesome game to play and absolutely suitable for children. Nothing scary at all.
Gameplay was WASD and both buttons on the mouse. It can be repetitive, but you get rewarded for it. There are no speedruns....just watch your oxygen levels. You are taken back to the home cove when you die and lose all litter you were carrying. I died many times as I'm an expert at it!!
Music was lovely and gentle and non intrusive. It really adds a peaceful vibe to the game. Graphics are colourful and cute.
I struck no bugs and managed to get all achievements bar 2 of them. You continue to play for hours if you wish so you certainly get your money's worth. There is communication between base and yourself and you get a pat on the back!
I heartily recommend this delightful and charming game to those who want to make a difference. A small percentage of this game goes towards the Whale and Dolphin Corporation. Check out the demo! 9/10
