Writing this while still a bit frustrated—but despite that, I actually do really enjoy this game. It’s a ton of fun going into a frenzy and tearing through everything in the water. The concept is super unique, and the gameplay can be really satisfying.
That said, the game does have its fair share of issues.
Yes, the aiming and accuracy feel a bit off at first, but I think with some time to mess around, you can get used to it.
However, the biggest problem for me is the constant crashing and freezing. I have a more-than-capable PC, and I don’t have any issues with other CPU- or GPU-intensive games. If you're someone who can't stand crashes or performance hiccups, you might want to seriously consider whether you want to deal with that here.
For me, crashes happen most often during "Revenge" missions (killing humans on beaches or inland), when entering new locations, in the Grotto (safe zones), or even when pausing to check the map or quest list.
I’ve tried a bunch of potential fixes—lowered all the settings to the bare minimum—but nothing helped. I know this game’s been out for a while, but I’m surprised these issues still haven’t been addressed. Even more surprising: there’s no fan-made mod fix for it either. I’d love to see the devs patch it, but I’m not holding my breath.
As for the DLC—I actually think it’s really cool! Basically you go full Godzilla mode here. I know some people say it’s “meh,” but I personally love the new evolution path. It feels strong and adds a fresh sci-fi twist, especially with the ray attacks. The new organ perks (secondary/tactical abilities) are fun to experiment with, and while the DLC story is short and simple, the mysterious new creature you hunt is pretty epic. Final boss is quite difficult, tailwhips are one shot to me, and hard to dodge.
Also—super random, but it was oddly fun hearing Chris Parnell (aka Jerry from Rick & Morty) as the narrator. Gave the game a quirky vibe I really enjoyed.
All in all, a really cool and weird experience. I love trying different evolution paths and modifying my shark. Grinding for materials is both visually and practically rewarding. The base game’s story is short and centered on revenge, but it gets the job done. I completed the base game 100% in about 15 hours, and now I'm working on finishing the DLC.
(Will update my DLC and total playtime soon.)
So base game: 15h
DLC: 11h (constant crashing took the most valuable time..)
Total: 26h
I downvoted the game in hopes that maybe—maybe—it gets someone’s attention and pushes for a fix. Despite the flaws, it’s a game I’ve had a blast playing
