I'll start with the bad.
The game feels a little dated, the art-style is nice but the animations are a little rigid. The movement can feel a little floaty, and though movement is precise, it can be janky at times. I wish the game had a little more vibrancy, though you could argue it fits with the theme. Some of the areas feel like a slog, and the second half of the game can get a tedious and even frustrating at some points. It's also criminally short, I finished it in 3 hours. I also had no idea that some "collectables" changed the ending of the game, which is my fault, but the game didn't put much emphasis on them, so I was a little disappointed.
On the flip side, the story is really enthralling. Narrative, destiny, fate, all those sorts of elements are lightly sprinkled from the get-go, and I was absorbed into the world pretty quickly. It's great when a game pushes you forward simply on concepts, and where everything was headed was enough to make me want to see what happens. There's a lot of philosophy here, and I'd bet a lot of people will have different interpretations, which is great for both the individual player and the larger community. The music was good, some tracks were a little forgettable but a few left me standing there just listening. Also the world was great, how people ascend to become terrors is an awesome concept and this game did a great job of exploring that idea.
All around, if you have a few hours to spare, I think it's an interesting little gem. It has a ton of potential, and unfortunately didn't maximize on said potential, but I wouldn't call it a bad game. If anything, it's a prime candidate for games that NEED a sequel. If a sequel is possible, I'd be highly looking forward to it. Overall, I'd give it a 3 out of 5 ! I think it's worth checking it out.
