Bokura Review (GoldiePlay)

Bokura is a Co-Op Puzzle Platformer that requires 2 Players to play.
It's visual style is pretty good for both Players.
Player One's style is pretty cute and reminiscent of a coloring book, but it gets a bit disturbing. Player Two's style is postmodern and robotic, where the disturbing parts are abstracted by imagining what would happen to robots if they were to endure the same things as their counterparts from Player One's perspective.
The story captures your interest by beginning with the Player describing their regrets about a past event. From then on, the game takes place in the past, leading up to the regrettable event. The story peaks when the Players get separated and experience different things. These situations climaxes in a decision that both players must make together. To make this decision, the players need to discuss their experiences to reach a consensus.
The platforming and puzzles start out quite easy but ramp up over time, introducing new mechanics and integrating the need to communicate with the other player. At times, one player's vision becomes stationary, preventing them from seeing or hearing where they actually are. The player who can still see then has to guide the "blinded" player through some platforming sections and puzzles. It's a cool concept but might get a little stale for the "blinded" player.
The writing and translations are very good, always fitting the tone of the story. We experienced the game in both English and German. Both translations are excellent and were done with a lot of passion. The experience is even better if both players read aloud the text that their characters are saying. Doing this provides a good sense of immersion that I can only recommend.
In my opinion, this is a perfect game to play with a friend, offering a great time with communication, puzzle-solving, and an intriguing story. I can only strongly recommend this game.
