Bokura Review (sleepymangrove)
I got this game for my friend and I and desperately wanted to love it. I wanted to love it SO BADLY. It seemed like such an interesting concept and I thought the artwork was very cute. After playing it, I can safely say it would have been an average but enjoyable game if it didn't suffer from some very annoying fatal flaws. The story was okay, but was unsatifying and left a lot of details vague without knowing that this game is actually part of a pre-existing story. Additionally, a lot of the puzzles were unintuitive and frustrating. I love puzzles and challenging puzzles are rewarding-- but a lot of the puzzles we struggled with didn't feel like they were made to be challenging in a fun way. Sometimes they just felt cheap. Even with all of that, had it not been for the constant server errors, I probably would have recommended this game just as something fun to play with a friend for a few hours! But the server errors were a nightmare to deal with.
I have no idea what's wrong with this game, but it made what should have been a MAX six hour playthrough sixteen hours instead. My friend and I spent most of the game just trying to reconnect and catch up to where we were in the puzzles before it booted us off. By the end of the game, we were just clicking as fast as possible to try getting to an autosave location or getting through an unskippable cutscene before we were disconnected from each other again. Even though I had a good time with my friend, it was not because of this game. BOKURA was really a hassle to finish and get all the achievements for since it fought us the entire way through.
