Eternights Review (lacrimosa1206)

For an RPG game made by an indie dev, it's a really good game.
Game plays similar to Persona (you have time limits and have to explore dungeons to get to the boss. You can choose return to your base within the week and do social interaction to increase your companion approval). The romance progression is really well done, they've put a lot of effort into the characters. It's not all braindead jiggly boobies; there are narratives and sub-narratives revolving around each character and the main plot (you have male romance options too). The first 1 hour of the game wasn't the best (way too dark), but get past that and the game starts to become more and more immersive. It's like an apple with blemished skin that turns out to be juicy when you actually take a bite.
Combat reminds me of Dark Souls series. You need to dodge/parry, and on higher difficulty taking damage is fatal because healing options are limited. On normal difficulty, you usually take 1-2 game overs or none at all to clear the boss (that's how it was for me). Minigames and puzzles are a refreshing break from the mid-dungeon battles.
Graphics and User Interface need a lot of work but understandable because this is a budget game from a really small game studio. I personally didn't really like the foggy/bloomy ambience (sometimes it gets way too blurry) so giving a -1 on that.
All in all, though, I'd say this is worth the money I spent on it. RPGs these days tend to be subpar in both story and combat, but Eternights has done a marvelous job of balancing out these elements.
8/10 from me, would have given 9/10 if the graphics had been easier on the eyes.
