Palworld Review (MacBeka)
Zelda and Legends Arceus had a baby and that baby played too much fortnite and knows way too much about guns. That said, guns are only available at higher levels, but I really like the levelling system! It feels meaningful and rewarding but it's not a slog. XP can be earned for yourself and your pals through just about any activity, from cooking to mining and catching to killing (although you seem to get significantly more XP for catching things). Building system is very fun and you can deconstruct things whenever you want for their full build cost. The automation aspect is soooo fun. Getting to see your little (or big) guys wandering around doing their little tasks is very fun and means that you can automate resource collection even while you're off exploring. The exploration is very fun and at least the starting area feels nicely populated with creatures and goodies and resources which all seem to respawn to make sure you don't run dry of anything. The game is obviously brand new so there isn't super much further afield, but the environments are gorgeous.
Played for 8.5 hours with my partner in the multiplayer and I was absolutely expecting a whooole lot of jank or server lag or input delay but there was none of that. Joining each other was incredibly simple via a code and once we started playing, we didn't have any problems whatsoever. Everything ran smooth, neither of us felt like we were having server lag at any point and there were no issues even when we were miles away from each other.
We bought this game expecting it to be a silly time that we'd maybe play for a bit just to laugh at the hilarious concept but we were both utterly sucked in and constantly looking for new pals to catch and trying to optimise our base pals to get all the right skills we needed. Overall, this is an incredibly fun game even at launch with so few issues. I had a single lag spike in one of the dungeons that lasted for just a few seconds and it never reoccurred. I can't wait to see how this game develops.
