Shapez Review (nutbunny)
This is the game that got me interested in automation/factory games.
The game world is a procedurally generated field populated with deposits of various grey shapes and the colours red, blue, green.
You mine shapes and transport them with conveyor belts to the Hub for collection.
As the game progresses, the type of shapes to deliver to the Hub change, and as you fulfil the deliveries, you gain more tools to manipulate the shapes delivered.
The tools enable you to blend colours, and cut, rotate, colour, and combine the shapes into what is needed by the Hub.
What used to keep me away from most games like this was the tension of having to monitor your resource usage, and/or time management.
Limited time and resources gets me worried about losing precious materials and opportunities forever.
An aspect i really enjoy about Shapez.io is that the gameplay avoids these stressors, allowing me more freedom to play at my own pace.
There isn't any time limit to beat.
The resources you mine do not get depleted.
This allows one to play without worrying about the cost of building and destroying components of one's delivery system, so you can play around, modify, and optimise your delivery system to your heart's content.
It has a neat, minimalist graphical design I enjoy. The inclusion of a dark mode is very nice.
I don't really care about the music one way or the other, it's not my style, but i guess it is suitable as a background.
Building the sprawling network of conveyor belts and machines, and discovering creative ways of optimising your design - both visually and logistically - is very addictive and enjoyable.
I highly recommend this game.
