Efsane!
Devamını oku...After a long break, the MechWarrior series has finally returned, and this time it presents us with a game that tells the story of the Clans and an important part of the BattleTech universe. However, unfortunately, this comeback fails to bring anything truly groundbreaking. While there are many elements that will excite longtime fans of the series, we are faced with a game that falls short in core aspects like graphics and AI.

To begin with, let’s talk about the graphics. Compared to Microsoft’s MechWarrior 4 series, MechWarrior: Clans is much weaker visually. The atmosphere that reminded us of AAA quality in those older games is almost completely lost in this new title. While the mechanics, character models, and environment designs are passable, they don’t fully meet modern standards. Still, details like the sense of weight and speed when piloting mechs offer a small plus, putting the mechanical experience slightly ahead of visuals.
The AI, unfortunately, is a complete disappointment. Enemies mostly operate with a basic "target and shoot" logic and are very weak in terms of developing different strategies or reacting to the player's actions. This marks a major downgrade compared to the dynamic AI seen in previous games.

That said, this game does offer innovative elements, particularly the BattleGrid system. This system makes strategic maneuvers on the battlefield much more interesting and complex. When facing enemies, it’s no longer just about shooting — how you use the environment and when you make your moves become very important. This feature especially shines in team-based battles. It deepens the overall gameplay mechanics and adds a more tactical dimension to the game.
On the story side, focusing on the Smoke Jaguar Clan is quite a bold choice. Bringing attention to a clan often overlooked in the BattleTech universe offers a fresh perspective. The missions that center around the Smoke Jaguars, especially cinematic moments like the “Smoke Bay Massacre,” are filled with scenes that make you feel like an important character in the universe. The depth in these missions motivates you to keep playing.

That said, I didn’t like the game’s DLC strategy. Piranha Games initially released some DLCs as paid content and later made them free, which feels like a bait-and-switch move. This is especially frustrating for collectors. If the content was going to be free, one wonders why it was sold in the first place. It’s a practice that we see far too often in the gaming world and one that undermines player trust.
Still, the game respects the depth of the universe and the spirit of older MechWarrior games. For fans of the BattleTech universe, it manages to offer an enjoyable experience despite its technical shortcomings. If you’re someone who has played games like MechWarrior 4, this title may not fully satisfy you. However, features like strategy and the BattleGrid system are key factors that help this game land in the “average” range.
In conclusion, MechWarrior: Clans has great potential, but technical issues and some questionable decisions prevent it from reaching the level it truly deserves. Still, for those who appreciate the depth and strategic richness of the BattleTech universe, it’s a playable experience. As it stands, I wouldn’t recommend buying it — but perhaps the upcoming Ghost Bear DLC will bring the improvements needed to tip the balance in its favor.
