I find this a little hard to recommend for the price, but I'll give it a hesitant thumbs up. It's not particularly expensive, but it's also not particularly deep either, and the DLC itself doesn't have much in the way of story playtime and nothing in the way of replayability. No exclusive rogue fusions or side quests, just the main story with Gwenivar. There's a few mini-bosses and one main boss, and while they're great aesthetically, the mini-bosses feel a little repetitive. I personally enjoyed the platforming, actually, but if you're not a fan of Cassette Beasts' platforming elements, you probably won't enjoy this.
I haven't really said much positive so far, admittedly, but the core gameplay loop is still great, the new monsters are really cool (though I'm surprised we didn't get that teased Muskrateere evo in the literal carnival setting), with my personal favorite line being the Littlered line. The aesthetics of the areas are great, though I feel they could've really used the carnival theme to their advantage more. Have more puzzles based on typical attractions. Carnival minigames, mirror rooms, rides integrated into the level design... these are all classics of carnival level design, and given the nature of the pier, there was full justification for more outlandish level design of this kind.
Overall, what we got is... fine. Gwen is the main thing that salvages this DLC for me, as her plotline is admittedly pretty enticing, at least in my opinion. My positive rating is mainly because the price is cheap, the main game makes it worthwhile, and I'm putting good faith in the devs of an indie game. But man, this could've been so much more...
Also sorry to say it, but Machine Curse is SUCH a bandaid solution to a fundamental problem with the Starter passives, making them such a coin flip of either "you lose if they have it" or "you win if they don't" rather than just "you win", without actually addressing the fundamental problems of these passives.
