The game that has started the trend... This is my second souls-like game after Elden Ring and I feel like this game made me a veteran in this genre. I understand all the hype. Jump into the game after accepting that it is a rather hard and unusual game that will take your time to learn about it. Well anyways, your gods are dead and you are stuck with the curse of being unable to die due to your king going senile and keeping how the things work despite it is all rotting. Good luck trying to fix all of it.
First of all, I think this game is pretty artistic. Like I felt really excited to be around in this world, it was mostly pleasurable. It was fun to wander around and explore, or just to look at despite this game having older graphics. Plus I understand why people liked the Dark Souls map. It is brilliantly designed and everything is connected. Even if it has been a while since I played this game, when I remember playing it, I feel no gaps between anywhere I went. I guess I can describe it as "complete". Despite not being an open world game, this game gives you the opportunity to explore a lot. Okay I guess I can tell that some stuff is absurdly hidden I still loved it mostly.
Let's talk about combat, the main part that probably most care about. When I was progressing through the game, I though "Hey, this feels just like Elden Ring :D!". Then game smacked me with more combat options that I needed to do. Game kinda forces you to use them all throughout the game. Sometimes you realize you need to parry, sometimes you just use bows, sometimes you have to backstab them. Learning these are hard, but after that you kinda enjoy it while looking for the enemies attack pattern. You can get creative whatever you use. I must say though, it feels so much slower comparing to Elden Ring. But I kinda find a beauty in that. I like breathing rooms to analyze what to do and change my plans. Since movements are slower too it is also more pleasurable to dodge an attack that you see. It just balances itself.
The thing I probably loved about this game is items! Items actually have meanings in this game. You see, there are shit ton of different enviromental dangers you need to get through and it is way too hard without some items. You kinda realize that you are doing something wrong in these areas. Walking in the water is too slow? There is an item for that. Too much poison around? Get poison res equipment, they make a lot difference. Bro deals too much lightning damage? Just get light res. equipment and it will become a decent damage. You get your poise up and hey, now you are actually hard to stagger, unlike other games where no matter what your poise is %90 of the enemies just stagger the shit out of you. You can shape your game experience however you want with the items you make an effort for. This also boosts your desire to explore.
If we get to the part where I need to write, there isn't much the write to be honest. They are using the same blueprint for all of their games and its okay. I liked Elden Ring lore, I liked this too. It was interesting. Though I can say I mostly played for exploring and combat. If there is a strong point about it's lore, maybe I could say there are really lovely NPC's. Everyone know Solaire but the others are not less amazing than him.
I'll be fair now, there are really some places of the game where it is total bullshit and just unnecessarily troubling. But you can just get through them you know, and I was kinda okay with it since I was just excited and just trying to survive.
Overall as a souls game, I loved it totally. It was more on the chill side but was still hard. I loved the whole world and exploring items, and use items lol. I also think that it would be a great game to be "first souls experience" with guides of course. Some people might not like it after games like DS3 or Elden Ring, since it paces a lot slower. But in my opinion game gives it's taste fully since you kinda digest it to get through it lol.
O chosen undead, you are left with the burden of a collapsing world on your shoulders. Fret not, keep trying and do not go hollow!
