This used to be my favourite game, and honestly i still hold the pre release verson fondly within my heart.
A little backstory just because
I got into this game after my friend sent a few youtube clips and told me to buy it (before it was free) and i was sceptical but wth why not i thought. I still remember the first game i ever played, i was confused on where i were or where to go, i started gathering materials and crafting arrows when suddenly "HEADSHOT" "HEADSHOT" "HEADSHOT". I barely had time to react and before i knew i was dead. Killed by a guy in some insane silver suit. wich confused me even more since everyone else had this orange suit. I looked up the name of the player and was presented with a video of a tournament of the top 10 players where the winner got a gold skin and the 2nd place got the silver one. I dont know what is wrong with my brain but that moment got me hooked.
The concept was simple with a 10 person battle royale game and a map built out of tiles that would move and change so you would never play the same map. The combat was simple at the surface but had good amount of depth with different gadgets and building a class to suit your playstyle was so fun. The community was rather small and you quickly started to recognise names and make friends amongst the playerbase. There were some gamebreaking bugs such as shooting arrows through walls, but also some fun ones like the teleport and axe combo wich brought more depth to the gameplay. The bad glitches were removed quicky enough though so it was fine. Another cool thing was the director role, being like a 11th player casting and controlling the game and the game had built in streaming support so that the directors viewers could vote on closing off different areas or helping players in need. It was a really fun time
with that said, why dont i recommend the game?
On release they wanted to make the game simpler in an attempt to get new players because almost everyone playing where more "hard core" so new players got confused, insta killed and had a hard time falling in love with the game. in an attempt to make it easier to pick up they changed the class system, making you forces to choose between 3 pre built classes removing any chance to cater the build to your playstyle, the crafting system and a few other minor things were changed but it was enough to make almost all hardcore players quit and no one new came to replace them making this one of the only games worthy of the title "dead game".
