My Forged in Fog Chapter Review:
Forged in Fog from a general standpoint is seen as of right now, a total disappointment. With one of the only pros being something simple and completely subjective; which being: "The survivor is hot". I mean, to each their own I guess but I'm not going to dwell on that much longer, I will go into the cons first.
Forged in Fog was a mess of a release, even more so of a mess than Project W was which is really saying something, but at least Project W got fixed relatively quickly with a killer that isn't a pain in the ass to go against with a strategy that isn't something that requires you to basically lobotomize yourself and reduce your movement decisions to holding the W key until you get to another loop, rinse, clean, repeat until you get downed. Now I know for a fact that this isn't fun for the killer as well, I have the Knight prestiged 3 times and the only reason I keep coming back to this killer isn't because his power is fun, it's strictly because of the fact that the art and design team does spectacular in terms of killer aesthetics. The loud clashing armor with every step, the heavy muffled grunts as you swing your claymore, and the chase music is pretty alright, with the fact you can hear the rhythm of a blacksmith hammering away at some metal in the background of the music. It really does make you feel like a big overeuncumbered beast of a man. But sadly that isn't enough for me or any other casual player of this game. My biggest gripe probably isn't shared with anyone else but, I don't feel like I'm a Knight when I'm using my power, like, at all. When I heard the next chapter was a Knight I got very excited, I was expecting a shield, maybe being able to parry a pallet drop, or even throw a spear or charge at a survivor! But all I got is what I think at this point was, a legion rework that they slapped on a new killer because: why rework and old killer when you can make a new one and earn money from it! It's extremely disappointing. I understand they were going for a Knight and his army or, Knights of the roundtable feel but I'm just not feeling it. It is genuinely more fun tonplaynwitho your power and that is an amazing feat I have never thought BHVR would make possible in terms of a killer power. If you're wondering why I'm not talking about the survivor, I'll quickly explain why. He's just thirst bait, that's it. He has no other importance than to sell cosmetics to people who want their overly attractive muscle daddy to gawk at all game.
Now, the "Pros" are extremely limited and simple, not unexpected. Perks, the perks are great and simple with the only one being a bit difficult to understand being Potential Energy, but once you use it it's pretty easy to understand and grasp the concept. The next pro being the killer design and aesthetic, like I said before, with my personal favorite attribute being the sound design with the armor clanking and chase music. Monster Factory has been giving us amazing voice actors recently so I'm very thankful for that. Thanks Monster Factory!
The next topic I will be talking about is the Map, Shattered Square. This map has NOT had a good introduction into the game, being a straight hindrance for colorblind players like me, then when it went to live they lowered the red fog but somehow made ALL pallet instances spawn on the map on every possible pallet location. I do not know how this is possible but at the time of writing this the map is disabled. The map is also terrible for stealth killers as the entire map is very low to the ground and you can see one side of the map to the other without any obstructions in a single sightline. God forbid you play Myers on that map, good luck getting Tier 2. A small issue that I have on the map that is just a personal gripe is that the new pallet texture blends really well into these new loops (especially in main building) and it's sometimes very difficult to realize there is a pallet there. But then again that just might be a skill issue on my part. The colors are just very similar to it's surroundings.
My final review on a scale of 1-10 is a solid 4. The only reason I would ever interact with this chapter is to play as a fucking big tall ass Knight with a huge fuck-off sword. Even then again, I'm going to lose the match because using my power simply isn't work it, I wouldn't be having fun, the survivor players wouldn't be having fun, it's just boring. As of now I just run M1 perks and pretend I'm a Scooby-Doo villain chasing people as a ghost knight, it's pretty fun give it a try. Anyways, hopefully the next chapter is better than whatever this plain bagel of a chapter was.
