A cute albeit poorly made copy of vampire survivors. This game actually introduced me to vampire survivors and the genre. Most abilities are poorly designed and there are gaps in what upgrades are actually available to the point where there are only a few viable build options. The game is a little buggy but mostly playble, and coop too, but what is really killing it is game design. It does have a few novel features, such as needing to go to a spot to progress, shrines, a kill to revive mechanic in coop, and a synergy mechanic that I like. The classes are fun and distinct. But again... not really much to see here until they fix their design. Given they havent really updated this game in months, i'd stay away.
I feel like many of the actives are inspired by vampire survivor abilities but are translated to this game in a poorly designed way causing them to be terrible. Its hard to mess up bibles (aka hummingbirds) or garlic (aka potatobattery), but the birds like peachone etc are now a jackfruit meteor that is effectively useless, and the clock lance is now a clock dial that is equally useless. These abilities are GARBAGE and i have tried to make them work but, they are just outclassed by things like potato, tail, hummingbirds, even rat fists and rat shield. And yet there is something much more terrible than those... the passives that only work depending on empty slots are the worst of the lot. Imagine deciding to pick a passive that says as long as you have more passives than actives you get x bonus, and then the game not allowing you to upgrade your 7 items and instead trying to force the 8th and final item on you for like 10 levels, with your only option to keep said passive to abstain and not get a level up. Its the point of the entire game, getting and upgrading items, how is this fun?
And so you turn your focus to the items that dont suck, and you start to realize that in many ways, several of them still arent great. For instance, range boosts, while seemingly amazing at first, turn out to be frustrating because of an incredibly tiny pickup range and lack of pickup range upgrades means you must now run around everywhere to get your exp orbs, meaning you now need to consider other stats like defense, dodge, or speed, to be able to keep the same exp gain. Its already incredibly difficult to hit max level in coop in this game before the timer runs out, which also makes items like crown of capy king (hit level 30) a bad choice unless youre solo.
Its sad, i really want to like this game, but it is just... riddled with issues and I cannot recommend it. I even gave my suggestions to the devs in their discord months ago but I have not seen any response or movement. Oh well.
