In it's current state, I would not recommend this DLC for the following reasons:
1. Very poor instructions on how to use the manufacturing components - i.e. component sorter - I had to find out from other players that you have to put a sample of what you want it to sort into the sorter for it to grab items that contain that component - BUT it doesn't not break the item down into it's components... it just takes the whole thing and makes the Processing plant take out the components it needs from the item and leaves the rest to build up within the plant.
2. As stated above, it doesn't break things down to their base materials. This would have been GREAT if it did so that we could reduce the amount of junk in our storage down to base components. Reducing your Stored inventory helps to reduce what the game is keeping track of, thus adding in overall game play. Plus I haven't found anything that tells what the priority of the sort is. Watching one video about ammo plants instructs to place an oil sorter before a Steel sorter so that you get all the oil out before it collects the steel, otherwise you might not get the oil contained within.
3. Computer terminal controls the Hoppers, switches, and plant, but not the sorters to tell them what to sort - DUH... that would have been a nice feature to have instead of running to each sorter and dropping in a sample.
4. I haven't tried it yet, but my understanding is that you have to be present in order for the factory/planet to continue the building of what you're looking to build. Again this falls back to standing around waiting for all the right components to fill up the plant so that it can build what you asked. This means that instead of being creative building these nice factories Killing your Settlement build size limit, it would be better just to drop all your junk into the Plant and let it pick out what it needs to build whatever and just leave the rest in the plant for any future builds. So, you could just drop down just a plant, power, computer, and storage unit and be done with it. Storage unit would contain just the items you selected to build and again everything just sits in the plant for the next Item you wish to build. So, you could just build one of each plant, connect a vacuum between them with a conveyor belt looping it back around to the first plant. Leave all the vacuums off until you need to use another one of the plants. Thus you suck all the inventory from one plant to the next for the project needed and in the end sending all inventory back to the first plant when you're done. Each plant would have a storage unit to collect the finished product. This all just seems like such a waste for such a fun idea.... so said this wasn't vetted out better.
5. Now the Buildings, Walls, Traps, Scaffolds, and items.... Those are AWESOME and help make the settlements look so much better. What would have made this DLC better would have been the ability to Scrap all the old buildings in your settlement - move the Workshop - The use of Community mods should not have been necessary since some of them don't work with GEN 2 or you have to have All the Area DLC's in order to work. Seems odd that when I take over a settlement area and I can see trees all around it but can't seem to scrap the nearby woods for the materials I need to fortify the settlement. I can scrap a car, cut trees in my small area... but the trees just outside the green line is off limits??? This is where I end up just using a command console and player add more wood when I can see it's RIGHT In front of my settlement. For the player to run all over to bring the resource in when it's right over there 4 steps past the green line is just dumb to me. Would be great if my settlers would scrounge the local area once the settlement is started to gather their own basics (Wood, Steel, Scrap, etc.) based on what is within a x distance past the settlement grounds.
Well... this is just my $4.99 paid input into/about this DLC. This is not to say that I'm not loving the game all over again with the improvements they've made... But come on... there was just so much more you could have done!!! Stop dropping the ball... it's like watching my state football team take it right to the end and flub it up every time. So disappointing.
