Guilty Gear has been in my opinion one of the best fighting games franchises out there. It has evolved over time and shown that anyone and everyone can enjoy playing, learning, and over all have fun with this series.
When it first started, for me, was Guilty Gear on the Playstation 1. It's odd graphics, intense music, and just amazing style of fighting took me by surprise. It was though extremely difficult at the time and even to unlock one of the hidden characters really showed a challenge.
I've played every game leading up to this one from the console to arcade and this one alone has always been my favorite. I love the music, the characters intros with one another, the fact it has an interesting story revolving around each character and where it ties with one another really stood out. It still has a challenge at times and I still am not as skilled as most tournament players but I still enjoy each person I go up against even if I am heavily beaten down by them.
The roster is big and there is actually different version of each character ranging from alternate styles and even dark and gold editions that completely change how each character can be a new challenge or over all fun.
The music is perfect. If you look up sound tracks there is even a korean mix that is just as amazing and I almost wish there was dlc to add or switch sound tracks for certain ones. There is even dedicated music for certain characters fighting one another which makes it feel even more epic like a fight in a movie.
The fact that there is a one hit kill move that players can attempt to use but if fails they lose their super gauge really makes it fun to attempt the risk just to speed run or have a unique finish. There is even a unique story path depending on using it with a characters story against select characters. Back in the first one it was difficult to try to pull it off or worst used against you even if you start it. This really changes the game.
The burst function gives new and old players a chance to recover and even power up their super gauge instantly if it connects without it being used to get out of a combo. Once used though you have to wait till next match, still its a great way of showing new fighters they just need to stay calm and plan to use such an ability.
There is a medal mode in the game where its just you going and trying to get as high a score as possible but like a survival mode as well. Very fun and makes you feel like your just doing great against the computer. There is also a mode where you go up against unique fighters with a challenge to it like limited life, no super gauge, poisoned and more just so you can unlock a unique character alternate of them. Very much helps you learn how to fight in ways that many may not have the skill at the time but will depending on new ways of fighting and learning.
Fun fact there is a short movie you can watch in the menu and though some may at the time like myself when this game first came out that it was possibly a trailer for an anime version of the game it was in fact a trailer for the game Guilty Gear X. Its well made and wish this could have got the chance to become one.
Over all if your looking for a fun game, great story, and over all fun time with amazing music and over all challenge, check this game out and other Guilty Gear titles. To me though, this one stands out next to the new one that came out and hope for those looking to find out which to get first, check this one out for sure and the very first GG game as well.
Hope you enjoy.
