First off I want to say that my negative rating for this game is because I am directly comparing it to House Flipper 1, as I am an avid House Flipper 1 enjoyer with hundreds of hours sunk into the first game. Therefore, I compared all of the systems with the first game, and have concluded while I don't necessarily mind playing the 2nd game, it just isn't as good as the first game, nor do I feel that it is worth even the sale price I got it for (it should go for less imo). I'm going to list some pros and cons about this game from my opinion:
DECEMBER UPDATE:
- The addition of actual wardrobe cabinets and sections as well as wardrobe doors was greatly needed and appreciated! Super great addition to the 2nd game here.
- The tile skill to continue laying rows of tile does seem a bit buggy to me; I'll keep holding it but it will skip pieces at the end occasionally, leading me to have to go back multiple times same as I would have normally without this tool. Could use some improvement!
- The new house is nice and it was great to have another house to fix and flip!
- I'd like to bring extra attention to please please please can we get a regular sized stepladder; the mini one or the huge construction platform are really limiting when trying to get extra height in a normally sized space to finish a ceiling.
- I'm a bit sad we can't recolor the actual Christmas trees to anything other than green- lots of people myself included use alternate color fake trees and it would be nice to replicate that in the game! Also disappointed no other holiday representation, such as a Manorah for Hanukkah.
OCTOBER UPDATE:
- Having more furniture and decor options is starting to really improve this game! Would still like to see more options continuing to be added however.
- Walls panels and molding are a HUGE quality of life upgrade!
- We seem to have gotten more decoration options with this update, really a great thing but would still love to see more yet.
- Getting info on buyers is a step in the right direction for value information!
- Additionally, the sold panel seems to now show the highest price you made off each property- not sure if this was actually in the update or not, but it is good information.
- Really a lot of good things added in this, in another few updates if they maintain the same update quality, I will change my overall review to positive.
PROS
- If you haven't played any House Flipper game before, this game may actually be great for you! Coming in without comparisons will give this game its best chance to leave a positive impression on you.
- Seeing and flipping new houses.
- Updated graphics: everything really is lighter and brighter than HF1, and has more detail.
- The ability to demo and create half-walls to use in spaces such as kitchen bars etc.
- The addition of architectural elements to add to rooms such as arched doorways, porch pieces, etc.
- Currency being in one basic unit vs dollar/pound to make tracking financial achievements easier.
- The ability to create more intricate wall designs with the surface tool.
- The ability to create specialized flowerpot arrangements.
CONS
- Lack of mini map for tracking dirt: personally, I strongly dislike the "flipper tool" with the highlighted dirt-while it shows stains great, it is way too light when it comes to showing trash as well as weeds.
- Lack of vertical setting for wallpapers and paneling unlike the first game: it's way too easy to mess up an intricate wall border, as well as it takes extra time to get any surface tool work done even with the expanded tool. I'd like to see more, larger options for the surface tool, in addition to a surface borders similar to the paint borders.
- Lack of regular stepladder: there are only either the tiny 2-step or the huge scaffolding and no inbetween. I'd like to see a regular ladder option.
- Inability to walk on the sidewalks in front of properties in order to landscape front flower beds bordering it: there's an invisible wall blocking you from ever getting directly in front of the property, and some landscaping is too close to it. Very frustrating.
- Past the immediate nearby homes, the background of each location is actually the same within areas (i.e. Old Pinnacove Suburbs, the Coast).
- Lack of reset button for changing colors/designs on any item in the store: even logging out doesn't auto-reset any changes you made- good luck figuring out what items looked like originally if that is something you wanted to go back to! I'd like to see a reset option, as well as a save color preset option.
- Lack of recent items bought screen in the store unlike the first game: sometimes I wanna know what I just bought 5 min ago so I can buy it again!
- Lack of pet decor- I really enjoyed in the first game getting to put cat towers/dog toys etc. especially when it comes to the house I am using as my office.
- Lack of summary when selling homes showing what buyers liked about it/what made them offer that price; I liked the green/red arrows when making changes that show what affected the house value in HF1. I'd like more concrete information on what raises the values here to get maximum profits.
- Inefficient cleaning tool: no, I don't enjoy the extra step of spraying the dirt before cleaning it, especially as I still have to spend more than a minute on some stains even with that. Please just give us the swiffer back from 1, OR the option to change between the rag and a mop.
- "Trash" not picking up correctly outside story mode: the trash bag can also collect items that aren't actually trash, as well as it won't pick up scrap construction materials such as pallet pieces, broken wood planks, etc unlike the first game.
- Lots of glitches- just the other day I had a door glitch into a bathroom sink and refuse to get unstuck.
"MEH":
- Having to micromanage colors/designs on everything: this is honestly exhausting. I understand it gives more creative freedom, but I prefer the first game where everything is separate and easily accessible.
- Lack of lawnmower: I don't think that the grass in yards in 2 is that low- personally, I would never allow my yard to be that high in real life, so I don't want it that tall in game either.
- Limited wall decor options: there's also a HUGE lack of wall decor- pictures, photos, paintings, etc. They just don't seem to exist in 2, which is a disappointment as it means less personalization options.
- Building mode requiring you to do each separate wall as well as ceilings and floors: in 1, you can just make a regular box room and then knock out a wall to connect it. Here, you have to do a lot of extra work when creating additions, and honestly it feels like a pain.
- Assembly being moved to a mini-game only vs being a normal part of installing appliances.
- The wiring tool is honestly too micromanaging and excessive- just let switches placed in a room turn those lights on please.
- Once you buy and sell a house, it doesn't seem to show back up in buyable houses, unlike HF1 where once you complete story mode you can buy and sell houses as often as you like even the same ones over and over again. *Update: the houses still don't show as buyable even after selling all except the office, but you can re-buy from within the sold tab....very confusing though, they should show on the buy tab just like in 1 personally.
Basically, I wish they would've kept all the same systems from 1 along with DLC systems and then expanded on making them better in the new graphics, vs just initiating new systems that aren't as good or efficient. I really feel that instead of releasing a whole new "game," the devs should have just released more paid DLC for HF1.
