first, i want to get this out of the way. by no means do i think the dlc is poorly made. theres a decent amount of recipes to collect, a few new places to renovate, fully voice acted story intros to the homes, new decor, and more. although a lot of the new furniture and decor is restaurant themed, theres definitely a bunch of stuff you could use in other renovations. at the very least, theres a lot to use to renovate kitchen spaces. but ive got a few gripes with the dlc itself, so i just cant recommend the dlc.
for starters, the dlc feels incredibly out of place in the world of house flipper. the garden dlc has you renovating the outside of homes via lawn care, ponds/pools, and plants. the hgtv dlc introduces problems that can occur on the job. the luxury dlc has you renovating high-end homes, as well as gives you the ability to restore furniture. the farm dlc adds the ability to build new buildings (like sheds, barns, garages, etc) or expand the house itself. the pets and dine out dlc really fail in this department. but the focus here is the dine out dlc, so lets talk about it.
for starters, let me talk about the major mechanic of the dine out dlc: the ability to rent out properties. dont get me wrong, this is a super cool feature. its great for when youre really proud of a house remodel, but you dont want to sell it off and never see it again. its also great for helping you earn a passive income. the mechanic itself is great and is a super cool addition to the game. but, how on earth does this relate to the dlc itself? renting out properties has nothing to do with creating restaurants.
theres also a tool to keep things level/symmetrical with the objects around it. this is amazing, as decorating wall spaces was so annoying, since it was hard to make things level with each other. but this feature came with the dine out dlc, and to my knowledge, was not an update to the base game and instead an addition exclusive to the purchase of the dine out dlc. this feature is incredibly useful and i guarantee its something all players want. it shouldve been an update to the base game alongside the release of the dlc, not locked behind the purchase of the dlc.
and another thing. the game is called house flipper, why are we suddenly creating restaurants for people? the whole point of the game has been to flip houses and sell them. sure, you could argue that we’ve had to remodel offices before. and sure, that’s definitely straying from the original idea of flipping houses. but the dine out dlc literally has us essentially building up an entire business by ourself. you have to buy all the equipment for the restaurant. you would expect someone who has been involved in the creation of their restaurant/bakery/cafe/whatever to have some equipment or decor of their own to put in there. but nope, its all up to you to buy everything. furthermore, you can create restaurants and then rent them out. so, youre literally setting up someone’s entire business for them, then renting it out for them to make profit, while only giving you a small percentage in rent.
overall, the dlc just feels really out of place in the world of house flipper. your job is to basically build up someone else’s business for them. i think the only mechanics i really liked was the ability to rent out properties (and again, why is this apart of the dine out dlc???) and use the various recipes to cook stuff to use as decor. overall, i just didnt really enjoy the dlc at all and a lot of the new features/mechanics didnt make sense to be included within the dlc.
