Pros:
-Female prot in a super hero game (not many games like that, sadly)
-Good art and music
-Nice simple rpg and story elements
-Combat mechanics and level progression are interesting enough
Cons:
-Can get a bit grindy at times
-Probably not a ton of difference in main story upon replay
A wonderful foray into the Invincible Universe starring every one's favorite character Atom Eve. Overall, this visual novel reminded me a bit of a Tell Tale Game, as it had a similar look and functionality, which was awesome. While I'd probably agree with some of the criticism that some of the choices don't really matter to much, that's kind of how that style of game often works - the look and tone of the game might change a little based on your choices, but you can't really go to far off the track of the planned story line. While we'd all love a game where you're choices make a ton of changes to the story each time you play, honestly, those games, while wonderful, are few and special . . . this is a very good game if you disregard that some of the plot you will be stuck on regardless of what you do. While the choices may not do a lot, they keep the story interesting and help define your version of Eve personality and back story wise a little, and the story that is there is great - it differs a little from the tv series, but not by a lot. The characters seem well defined and interesting, and balancing the prots relationships with family, friends, and potential romantic interests had enough tension to be interesting but not so much as to detract from the generally fun tone of the game. Dialogues were fun and engaging, plot reveals were fun too. Level progression was fun and fast, opening up new dialogue options and powers fairly often.
Idk....kind of hoping they do a sequel or something, but if not, I'll say this game is solid all the way through. Its got a strong theme and tone, orchestrated by the strength and challenges of Eve's character and her story. While it's nice to leave Atom Eve with an optimistic ending, like the end of the last episode says, this isn't the end - I'm sure there's a lot more story.
Anyway, I'd recommend this game for fans of super hero games as well as visual novel players that like light role playing elements - this is one of those games I wish Steam had a star rating, as I'm gonna give it a like/recommend of course, but it deserves a higher star rating than some of the other games I've liked or recommended. I'd happily give this one 4 out of 5 atoms.
