Moons of Darsalon is a game from another timeline. First of all, it is absolutely, gobsmackingly, unforgettably gorgeous, filled front-to-back with some of the most expressive, characterful, and flatout beautiful spritework I've ever seen. Dev Dr. Kucho, in his other Non-Gaming Life, is a house DJ - I don't know anything about house music or European DJs but Moons' soundtrack is absolutely celestial.
It also plays great. An action platformer at heart, it also incorporates some light puzzle platformer and navigation puzzle elements - the latter comes into play most notably when you're escorting other characters, which is a large part of this game. Yes, in some ways, Moons of Darsalon is an Escort Mission, but somehow, in one of the several heroic feats this game accomplishes, it's a fun, unprescriptive one. Add on top of all of this a really cool sense of emergent, physics-based gun- and gameplay, and you've got something that plays nearly as good as it looks.
Moons deserves exponentially more attention than it has received. It is a handmade labor of love and a straight up pop art masterpiece. Worth the price, don't be put off. Check out the demo if you're unsure. Play with the sound up.
