A Short, Concisely Designed Package
Things I Like About Nocturnal:
Overall Design
It's a nice short game. There's not a single dull moment between gameplay.
Beautifully hand-drawn art style, especially the strong contrast between light and dark.
Control feels precise and the character's movement is smooth.
The game may be short, but it fully showcases the mechanic, its variation, and its evolution.
Platforming is designed around wielding fire to disperse the darkness. The visual effects look wonderful.
Introduction of a new mechanic is well-timed. Each section offers enough time for you to get used to, and it never out-stays its welcome.
Lighting your sword on fire is by nature, the coolest thing in the world.
Special moves revolve around your flaming sword. Unlocking them spices up the combat and you can easily pull off some nice combo.
I don't know if it's just me but setting things on fire in this game just feels oddly relaxing.
Things I Dislike About Nocturnal:
Minor Complaints
Some hiccups I find during my playthrough.
Combat without a fire source just feels lackluster. I wish you could still use the special moves without the flaming sword with a less impactful outcome.
A way to look down or look up would be nice.
May be a little pricey.
Have a feeling that this game may be a sample or a demonstration for something bigger.
