My experience with Resident Evil 6 largely leans positive. However there's one Achilles Heel that will either make or break RE6 for you. How much content there is on offer here in terms of the story.
Resident Evil 6 can either be a bloated mess or a welcomed jam packed game depending on what you're looking for. Resident Evil 6 is longer than any RE game prior to it has been with 4 campaigns, all of which being at least 5 hours. I'm on the fence with my stance as I largely enjoyed the game as a whole, but after awhile this game was tiring to play for me due to the game not offering enough variety and being non-stop action 24-7, some things such as in Jake's campaign you have to climb up an icy hill and if you get shot and fall on the ice you slide all the way down hill, and for me the first 2 and a half chapters of Ada's campaign was miserable. But I did greatly enjoy the combat of RE6, I found that by and large gunplay felt really good and you can do some cool stuff in this game, more than in any RE game before it. Although I did say (and stand by) that RE6 can be very tiring in part to its non-stop action, I can't deny there are some really fun and memorable set-pieces such as Chris and Piers chasing Ada on the free-way, or getting to pilot the helicopter as Ada. There are moments where certain characters from one campaign cross over with another and you have to play the same segments over again, which I can see why someone might find that frustrating, but for me since I already knew what to do replaying those wasn't the worst since I could complete them much more easily.
Another element in the room I have to address is Resident Evil 6's huge focus on action and basically abandoning its survival horror roots almost entirely. This is always going to come down to a matter of opinion, but as somebody who's been playing all the RE games in a row and has gotten so see how this series evolved overtime in a post RE7 world, I personally don't mind. I completely understand why many were miffed by the drastic change in direction at the time seeing as RE4 and even (to a much lesser degree) RE5 could still be considered survival horror because even if they were more focused on action there was a nice balance of tense atmosphere and resource management. In RE6 resource managment is practically non-existent and it's just crazy action all the time. Again, I don't really mind this because RE6 is still (mostly) fun to play and does what it set out to do really well. I'll also argue this game was more tense for me at points than RE5 was in its entirety such as when Sherry and Jake have to hide from that monster that chases them throughout the campaign.
To be completely honest, Resident Evil 6 is not even close to being a favorite RE game for me, it's closer to the bottom of the totem pole in terms of RE greatness but having said that I still had a mostly good time with RE6. There were points where I got frustrated with the game but I can't really say I was ever bored. I personally think there are worse RE games such as Code Veronica and RE0. If you're willing to look past the drastic change in direction, and judge RE6 as an action third person shooter I think there's a good time to be had here. The game is really cheap when it goes on sale too so I'd say at least give it a try. At the very least you can play this game co-op with a buddy so that's gotta count for something right?
