Place tents next to trees, but be careful not to crowd each other!
What is it: A logic puzzle game in which you must place tents next to trees. Every tree must have a tent next to it, horizontally or vertically; tents must not touch each other, not even diagonally; and the number of tents in a row or column is given. The game comes with level packs of different sizes and complexities, from easy 5x5 to hard 12x12 with missing row/column numbers, plus 3x6 daily level packs.
This is a game that I’ve been playing on the phone for a long time. It is an excellent logic game, well suited as an alternative/companion to Nonogram, Minesweeper, Sudoku, Hexcells and other smart deduction games. But I’m not happy with this release. I may increase the score and put it on the top 10 for 2024 list if it gets expanded. The main complaint is that there are only 20 packs in this release, while the mobile game has over a hundred, going up to 24x24 in size, 30 daily levels, and a no-grass challenging mode, plus other features.
Anyway, even with these complaints, I still like the game. It plays well enough with a mouse or a controller. Each level has a logical next step that doesn’t require deep assumptions and backtracking. The hint mechanism doesn’t offer a straight-up solution, but points out what you’re not noticing. It supports online cooperative play with a friend.
How hard is it: Easy to moderate.
How long is it: 20x20 main levels plus 18 daily levels. All levels in a pack are unlocked, and while not all packs are available from the start, they all get unlocked fairly quickly. Hoping that more level packs will be added, the game should keep you occupied for many tens of hours.
Level design: Great for an abstract deduction game.
Quality: Very good. Cloud saving, meaningful achievements, decent settings, decent level select, decent support for the Steam Deck, fast and responsive.
Worth the price: Yes, especially if more level packs are added.
Most positive aspect for me: Excellent logic game.
Most negative aspect for me: Too few levels at release time.
What would make it better: More levels. Keyboard support, just like it works with a d-pad on the Steam Deck. Don’t disable the touchpad/trackpad on the Steam Deck. Dark mode available from the start.
