First, it's a DLC for legendary difficulty. You can start a new game with created character but without proper equipment it won't really has a chance to fight.
If you could describe this expansion with one word, it would be "boring".
Seriously, the plot is not existing (not that it matter but hey), which is explained... after you beat the game in outro. And is not good. 15 side quests are not better but at least some of them have parts of Chinese mythology (althrough new "Duck Tales" has a better explanation of luck frog :P).
There is barely any NPC to talk outside quest ones.
The worst part of game are maps and mobs. Forget about maps from acts I-III, where you knew, where to go and you could find a nice little cave or dungeon here and there. Forget even about Ragnarok or Atlantis, where maps were larger but not hard to navigate.
In Eternal Embers maps are huge, filled with lots of mobs. They are also designed as "circles" instead of "corridors". Now you enter a new region and spend a lot time just trying to find exit to next region. Didn't developers hear about an ancient discovery named "signpost"?
The final area is a "corridor" again so I guess even map designer(s) was sick of doing it.
Dungeons are also huge, with muliply corridors leading to the same point and with many dead ends, so you will turn around and backtracking a lot.
I was literal sick a few times navigating these maps just to find the next ressurection well.
The final battle... is not good. While final boss fights in Original, Immortal, and Atlantis were fun and have huge areas, while Ragnarok fight has a restricted area but you could avoid attacks and at least it was 4 stage fight, final boss fight in EE has a very small area, bombarded by spells, which means you don't have much place to avoid attacks.
But that's not the worst part for me. The worst part was that there were so many spell effects, that the game frozen for few seconds before continued. So you can die not by your own mistakes but because game engine can't process the fight corectly.
I also crashed a lot in Egypt maps.
As others mentioned, most of mobs are copy/paste of mobs already existing in game.
It takes forever to get to first village and then to next. In time were you start EE and visit first village I probably could run half of game's III act.
On the plus side: new artifacts are nice and there is one teleport not far from three bosses, one close to another, so you can farm them easly, if you want.
New class is so-so for me right now (I didn't played it too much).
Two new cities, one in China, one in Egypt, also are nice to look. They are huge but unfortunately empty.
