This game is a Trojan Horse. It first presents itself as a comedy game that capitalizes on how horrible you're going to be at it when you first start. After some hours of practice however, it slowly becomes one of one of the greatest rhythm games available right now, and I mean that sincerely.
Both phases of this trick work because unlike most rhythm games that merely simulate the experience of playing an instrument, Trombone Champ turns your mouse into an actual instrument itself, and it's an instrument that you can master. Spend enough time improving your scores and laughing at how bad you are, and eventually you'll be shocked to find that you're starting to sound GOOD. The scoring in TC almost becomes superfluous after enough practice, because the real reward is hearing yourself play a song perfectly and knowing that nothing made that happen except for you.
That's the unique appeal of Trombone Champ that it shares with very few other rhythm games: it's just as satisfying as playing an instrument because that's exactly what you're doing. Except here, the early pain of sucking at a new instrument is redirected into comedy. Instead of getting frustrated, you laugh until you cry and then keep going.
Buy it, play it, finish it, mod it, start downloading custom charts. I could gush about this game for so many more reasons but for now, I'll just say that this is a perfect game and Holy Wow should be insanely proud of what they achieved
