Something needs to be done.
I bought this game and all its DLC on Steam, Nintendo Switch, and PS5. I did this because all I want is to see every Worms game succeed so we can continue to see more entries released implementing new game-changing mechanics. Unfortunately it is not an enjoyable experience to play this game in its current state.
You will only find matches if you queue up for quick play. Even then it can take up to 10 minutes to find a match, and when it does there will only be at most 5 people in the game. Of those 5 people, at least 1 of them will be a level capped player with upwards of 5 million lifetime damage. The team this player is assigned to will win. It makes it feel like the other individual players don’t matter, as these matches typically end with scores 20 to 1.
This issue likely drives new players away, which is problematic because this contributes to the lack of players online. So few players online renders multiple daily challenges impossible to complete. The majority of daily challenges must be completed in specific game modes. Game modes that you cannot queue up for, as the only queue you will find matches in is quick play.
Because of this, daily challenges are painstakingly slow to complete, as it’s a coin toss whether or not quick play will put you in the game mode you need to complete the challenge.
This makes the game feel very devoid of purpose when everything is solely dependent on luck. Will you win the match? Depends on if you get teamed with the 3,000+ hour playtime veteran. Will the match you waited 10 minutes for be relevant for your daily challenges? Depends on the mercy of quick play.
Neither of these issues can be resolved by queuing up with a friend, as my friend and I have tested, two players queued separately for one game mode does not create a new lobby. You will both sit in queue until it times out and disconnects you.
The only clear resolution to these issues would be to get new players. Whether or not this means becoming free to play, I don’t know. All I know is that if SOMETHING is not done, this game is going to die.
