AK-xolotl Review (Brocktho)
So my play time is a lie, I probably have about 2-3 hours actually, but I left it on overnight by mistake. The game has a lot of charm from the art and there seems to be a fair amount of content to enjoy and work on. The different axolotl skins are cute but they are just skins so they don't have that much effect on gameplay outside of the meals you cook to give them different abilities.
I can say personally I didn't experience any noticeable bugs and the game felt fairly fast paced and interesting. Although personally it left me wanting more. Coming from games like gungeon and isaac it doesn't feel all that difficult which isn't a bad thing necessarily, but it felt just a bit too easy for me and the guns didn't seem to add much complexity or difference other than a couple percent of dps increase. So mostly i just found myself using my starter gun on everything but the boss and didn't really have trouble.
I have seen people say the devs are active and constantly improving the game, so I think there is hope for the game and opportunity for it to improve, but for me the price for the amount of content doesn't feel quite there.
I just don't see a lot of interesting interactions like isaac or gungeon and I don't feel the difficulty is quite there as a result since your only real lever to pull is items like "10% more damage" "2 more hearts" "2 more shields" "leave a fire trail", nothing seems to fundamentally change the way I play and make me want to use the guns since I get a large amount of "too good to use" syndrome where ammo is so limited that you just want to save it for the boss fights. Anyway, I'll probably return sometime and give it another shot, but for now I don't feel all that compelled to play since the core gameplay doesn't seem to have all that much variety.
