As Dusk Falls Review (Mögbär)
Liked the story, even though the second half isn't all that good and I don't think this needed an open ending with a cliffhanger.
Playing again and trying to do everything as differently from the first time as possible made me realize how little what I do actually matters. Even failing QTEs in dire situations will hardly ever lead to different results while the only parts that are notacibly different are towards the very end and will be decided more or less right then and there, not really by anything you did during the game.
Sure, a lot of people can die or survive during the story, but if you pay attention, you'll notice that of those who can die at some point, none will ever play much of a role or even appear after the scene they could get killed in and the others have plot arnor until the game doesn't need them any longer.
So the branching narrative aspect isn't strong in this game, but if you just want to play an interesting story with a bit of interaction and eventually meaningless decisions, this can be recommended if you are also okay with not getting the full story. (It has enough closure for what it is, but it is very obviously meant to continue.)
The game isn't totally realistic and has its fair share of tropes and clichés, but it's really engaging, has interesting characters and regularly pulls little twists or connections out of its sleeves to surprise you and let you see things a little differently than before. It's entertaining and can make you feel for the people whose story it tells. I really cared about what happens to everyone and that's not something every game achieves.
