Assassin's Creed Odyssey Review (Kosmozuikis)
Malaka! it's a question mark simulator
Another Ubisoft open world game heh? Another Assassin's Creed. And another question mark simulator.
Lets start with the story. As always i'm keeping this short because I don't like spoilers. You pick your character (this time you can pick male or female protagonist which is a very welcomed addition) and you start your journey. I picked Kassandra so I don't know if the story is exactly the same if you pick the male characters. Kassandra embarks on a journey to uncover her family's past while meeting iconic people on the way and even fighting some mythical creatures.
The gameplay is pretty much the same as in Origins, only this game is even bigger...and...has more pointless, repetitive filler content to prolong the 40h game.
I personally treat it as a chill game which doesn't require any effort or brain work. You just go from one quest to another, from one question mark to another for over 100h until to finish them. Majority of the quests are the same, the are camps every 100 meters which you need to clear of enemies.
But...it's fun. You just run around killing people. Some side quests are pretty funny and have really good backstories which will make you laugh. Origins had that too but in Odyssey there are more of these good ones.
Main questline includes a lot of cut-scenes and isn't bad at all. Honestly it's quite captivating and interesting.
You also have a ship and sail the seas while having ship battles. For me those are annoying and I try to avoid them. But i guess many people will find them fun so it's neither a downside or upside. You also need to manage your ship, you can hire the crew and modify your ship.
Combat is greatly improved compared to Origins. It's now more diverse and you have more options to kill the enemies. There are plenty of skills and moves to unlock which makes combat very entertaining. Even though gameplay is repetitive, fighting is fun.
Another new feature is battles where two faction fight each other and you can participate in these mass events.
Lets talk about the bad things. Mercenaries are annoying. In my opinion they exist to annoy people, to maybe push them into buying mtx garbage. Mercenaries appear all the time and they hunt you. They are extremely hard to kill even on easiest difficulty and nearly impossible on normal. You can get rid of them by spending in-game money and paying bounties but you need to do that every 15 minutes. It gets easier when you unlock more skills but even when it's easy it's annoying.
Also the game has anti-cheat. You probably get why huh? Annoying enemies, hard to beat, extremely slow level progression...yeah...
The map is huge, there are lots of camps to clear, probably over a hundred, cities and towns to see, “treasures” on every step.
Each area is of certain level (that doesn't apply to mercenaries, you can be chased by a 35lvl mercenary in 25-30lvl zone who is impossible to kill unless you spend 20 minutes on that) and you just explore those areas and stuff there and then move on to a new area and repeat same process again with higher level weapons and armor.
This time you can climb anywhere, even the flat walls. In the beginning of the game you can unlock the skill and get rid of fall damage so you can jump down from whenever you like and take no damage.
Graphically the game looks good but nothing impressive. Objects which are farther away are low quality, you see lots of shadow pop-in, etc. But everything else closer to you is great.
As always in Ubi games nights do not feel like nights and there's barely any difference from cloudy day weather.
Character models are decent, facial animations are low quality considering it's a AAA game. Although as always with Ubi games animations in general are very smooth and look amazing.
Performance is average. On max settings game is choppy with extremely inconsistent framerate. Clouds take a of performance so lower them first. Although they are a huge improvement since Origins. Clouds really look amazing in this game.
Played at 3440x1440 on 5800x, rtx3080, 32GB.
No native ultrawide support so you'll need to use a fix.
Sound design is good but don't expect too much. It's just fine. Voice acting sounds good and the music feels just like generic music which you forget 5 minutes after hearing.
It's an ok game at best. Depends what you're looking for. On easy it's fun, on normal it's tedious. It's a chill braindead experience when you just want to effortlessly repeat same tasks hundreds of times. It looks quite good, especially in some conditions and has pretty good story. Get this on sale if you have nothing to play.
