Bleak Sword DX Review (InkyBat)

I'm just gonna say this before I get to the nitty-gritty, ever since I saw this before it even came out I was immediately hooked on it. Literally! Like, for example, not only was this originally a game you could get through the Apple Arcade thing, this is literally one of the greatest Dark Souls-like experiences you can have.
From the locations perspective of their little areas to the variety of monsters and beasties you can hack, slash, bash, block, and just carve your way through. Speaking of which. I should mention; I love the usage of both typical and atypical kinds of enemies that I feel are very seldomly used in any other game, be it your run-of-the-mill RPG to whatever. I mean, honestly, as a man who loves his monsters, I personally like that sort of thing. Though the names of some leave a lot to be desired for me, I suppose they work just as is.
But enough about that, let's get to the real meat of this discussion! Movement is pretty simple, you exactly have a total of 3 buttons you would need to use when you're in a fight, whilst the others, being the arrow keys, are obviously to move (go figure, I guess). The actions you have while on the field are Blocking, allowing you to counterattack any enemies as long as they don't a have red exclamation over their heads. Attack, which if charged enough can deal a ton of damage to something, and finally, the most vital of them all: dodging. Dodging, unlike when you swing your sword, does not take stamina to use but can temporarily impede it's recharging, meaning you must do it wisely as you try not to land yourself into a world of hurt.
Apart from that, it's a pretty standard control scheme that one can easily get behind and grow adjusted to. But even then, in one of the chapters, you mostly riding on horseback, which means your blocking ability is replaced with a jump until the end of that chapter's boss. So be prepared for that, potential readers.
Bosses, while on the topic, are a real treat. If the true, near-pureblooded-ness of the Souls games weren't enough, then the end of the world fights are surely something. Tall, lumbering monstrosities that dwarf you in sheer size and strength in which you must do battle with them as a means to progress with the game and the story. Ever boss bearing it's own pattern, moves, and specials. In one instance, you might fight some weird mutant-looking animal while the next is when you're fighting a giant floating head that pukes lasers. A fine way of capping off a world.
And what happens if you were to die, is you losing both the amount of EXP you raked at the current time and lose some of your items in the process. Essentially after this happens, you're given a second chance to retrieve it whilst nearly fighting for your life as tension from the situation arises.
But in truth, that's it. But even after that, you have the chance to explore some of the other things you can do, like changing the kind of campaign or difficulty level you want, duking it out in Boss Rush, or taking the time to test your skills in the arena and see how long you'll live. The option is yours.
But as to whether or not you should decide you buy this game, I would, without a doubt, say yes. Yes, in the sense that you should indeed buy it, play it, and beat it. It's a fantastic game that offers an enveloping experience practically unlike any other. Everything you see, from some of the most fluid of animation you can get out of a pixel-based game, to the haunting yet whimsical tunes you hear while you play. It is, without the doubt, one of the best things you can spending your money right now. And it's a steal just by the pricetag alone, so you'll at least have your money spent on something that doesn't cost a whole lot.
If anything, treat yourself to getting this game, and just having fun with it. You will not regret in any way, shape, or form. Although however rage-y it might sometimes, just remember, it's all for the fun of it.
