Chivalry 2 Review (Snakeyesoldier)
I used to really like the game, but the problems just keep getting worse.
-Maps are poorly optimized, and always HEAVILY side one side or another meaning you need to have a better team with luck to beat the other side. The latest map is a particularly egregious example. The first OBJ is against 6 Balistas and and 3 catapults facing the other side's spawn. The catapults also destroy the ice you spawn on, setting up kill zones for the balistas if they know what they're doing.
-Weapon balance is impossible, given that custom DPI settings exist, and people can use DPI accelerators to make sure every swing they take can go light speed, usually with the dane axe. You need to be blocking at all times against them, which is free kills for their teammates. This has become a MASSIVE problem at the time of me writing this, you'll always spot several people with dane axes (you get 2 with the class that has it), and they wait to perfect parry with them and do a wide sweep. The perfect parry drops no stamina, and since its a sharp weapon it can literally cleave through your entire team at once.
-The community is extremely toxic, as is par with every medieval PVP game. Its not as bad as mordhau though, but if you do too well, take someone's catapult, play archer, or anything in between, you'll get vote kicked.
-The option to switch teams needs to be removed entirely. This has been an issue as long as I can remember, one team starts to lose so all the high level players that recognize the way the match is going all switch to one team, or stack the game at the start. This ends up being a case of veterans with 200+ hours on the game going against players that are still learning. I personally enjoyed the challenge as I was learning, but can't recommend it to others.
-The dev team has extremely slow development cycles. I started playing around the Tenosia update when it was added to steam, and it was cool! But in that time since then, they have added one map, and the Tenosians still have next to no customization options. The addition of a third faction was a massive marketing point, used in tons of YouTube advertisements through sponsored videos, as well as the addition of horses....then they did nothing with them. From the start of my playtime to now, they added less than five weapons, and haven't fixed some of the biggest issues with the game that have been IN the game for a while now.
-There are various, non map related technical issues that I've had for my entire play time. The game doesn't close properly, and sends a crash report on close and requires a full steam restart. All Tenosia maps have audio layering issues, especially the Breach of Baudwin, the "running out of time" music plays twice over itself, causing one of the most annoying audio bugs I've ever experienced, the customizations sometimes reset themselves, and there's a few crash issues but those are the only issues that get fixed.
Overall the game is plagued by issues and seems to do nothing to save itself, and has a toxic playerbase that will crucify you for using a bow while saying the most obscene stuff in chat.
