Cities: Skylines - Natural Disasters Review (Delta_Four_Niner)
In a game about expanding city design and scope, this is a bit of a sideshow gimmick that will entertain for a few minutes but ultimately serve little function.
Anyone who grew up on the Sim City franchise knows how fun it is during a fit of boredom to pummel your metropolis with all manner of hellfire and devastation. The thing is, it wasn't a core mechanic of the game - just something fun to dink around with on the side. Sure, we'd set a few monsters loose, spin up several tornadoes, and even detonate a nuclear reactor for kicks and giggles. But then we'd reload an old save or start a new city to quickly move on. It worked because it was part of the base game. Selling it as way overpriced DLC does not do it any favors.
To be fair, it comes with several new assets that add diversity to your city's emergency services. I must admit to being fond of those radio tower masts, which create an aesthetic reminiscent of places I grew up in the States. And to the scenario lovers, the challenge of preparation and recovery can add a dynamic to the gameplay that spices up the otherwise vanilla experience of city growth. So it's not merely a few god tools to smash your infrastructure with. But it's definitely not worth the current price tag.
If you're going to treat yourself, definitely wait for a sale.
