Crymachina Review (skazka)
Let me start by saying that I absolutely love the game. I love art style and i love the ost. But..
But this is completely unacceptable. Such a bad quality game, so many bad game design decisions and even more bugs and cut corners. This is an INSULT to the gaming community and most importantly - to the fans of your games. This is unacceptable.
First of all, bugs.
Did you even play your game yourself? And I don't mean small bugs like Ami hair being out of place all game long or finishers not dealing any damage, I am talking about really disturbing, game breaking bugs. Half of the time the game simply crushes. Ami is basically unplayable as a character due to her finisher bugging out. Also, the first time you play as Ami she can't even move properly because she is "sliding" out of the map. Enemy hitboxes are not existent any time they move, especially when enemy teleport their hitbox is still on the same place where enemy was before, not allowing character to move. Invisible boxes all through level on the players patch that randomly appear or disappear in the middle of the road. And it's only the start, i can continue this list much longer but there is no need for this. I am pretty sure you know all of the bugs yourself if you played your own game at least once.
But don't worry, I enjoy the game too much to let me stop playing because of some bugs. Not happening!
Let's talk about game design decisions.
Riddle me, was it THAT hard to put more checkpoints before bosses at the end of the level? You know, it would be very nice if there would be no need to WALK THROUGH WHOLE LEVEL AGAIN and collect all of the stuff and kill all of the enemies every time I die at the boss or the game randomly crashes or freezes. And don't tell me "it's hard to make" you already have done this sometimes, on some levels in some spots, but not everywhere. But why?
I can see only two reasons, either you're a bad game designer or you are lazy. And since it's not your first game and you did it on some levels I assume later, which again, incredibly insulting to the gaming community and to your fans.
Anyway, talking about level design.
I absolutely adore and love the idea behind it, a big wasted space of emptiness - it's really beautiful. But was it THAT HARD to add some different boxes to the maps? Or maybe a few grunge decals to spice things up. I mean, we are not asking for a full blown open world game with a Minecraft sized map and unlimited content, but at least to put some effort into your maps. And you can cope as much as you want and call it "art style" and stuff like that, but when I see a valve with 6 sides in the 2023 game for 80 euros I am just at a loss for words. How did you allow this into your game? You are using Unreal Engine, one of the most powerful engines in the world and your map is not that incredibly detailed that you can't afford a few extra polygons on the scene that you were forced to make your models look like they are from 2001. I mean, it's not a joke, Half-Life 2 valves and tubes had more polygons and visual quality than your game models in 2023! And even though the levels are beautiful, they still look empty, they look boring. Same textures, same models, same everything on every level except different patches you can take. I mean, if you are making a linear structured game based on levels in 2023 you at least expect some details and effort put into them, right? But no, you copied and pasted the same 10 models all over 80 euros game, added different fog colors and that's it? Let me remind you, that god of war costs CHEAPER than your game. And you know that, you know that your level design is bad and boring and you still allow this game to be published in this state. This is just insulting...
Let's talk about combat.
I know it has been a big issue even from the Crystar times, and applause to you, it was a big step up! I mean it was a step up from the Crystar level, but combat in your game is like 100 steps down from all other games.
Did you play genshin impact? Or dark souls maybe? From what time in history did you pull this button smashing piece of crap gameplay in your brain and call it a good decision? It's simply unbelievable that after all these comments your fans left you, all this crying, you allow yourself to publish a game with the combat system from prehistoric era and call it a fun gameplay. I can't even imagine what was you thinking...
Oh! Almost forgot, animations!
I am sorry to ask, but why.. Why is your game has so few animations? I mean, it's a 3D game which in my brain assumes there should be at least some different animations, right? And the quality of existing ones... uff.. Did you watch like 1 blender tutorial for 3d animation and put in the game and call it a day? And I mean, it's not like your game has to have a lot of different animation, it's literally running, fighting and talking. But why not add a few more idle animations for the characters when they are standing or sitting in the imitation garden. It's not like you need to do full blown god of war level motion capture that costs millions to make a sitting character move their hand from time to time. But okay, if that was THIS hard maybe put at LEAST a few different poses. But no, you made Enoa t-posing every time she activated the checkpoint and called it a good work. But what triggers me most, after doing such a bad and lazy job at animating characters you allow yourself to cut corners even more by doing BLACK SCREENS TO CHANGE POSES. WHAT? ITS UNREAL ENGINE THAT HAS ANIMATION BLENDING BUILD IN. IT'S LITERALLY 2 BLUEPRINT NODES, 3 MINUTES OF WORK MAX. HOW?
Also, story.
I mean it's alright. Considering how bad all other stuff in the game is, the story is just simply mid.
Also, is it only me, but Popator is like a "dad" to all machines, right? And characters explain a lot about that and how she gave them an idea code and considered them as her children. And also machines and especially Enoa feels and considers Propator like her father, right? She talks about this a lot mid-game too. But then they fall in love... Propator and Enoa, dad in child. And it's not like family type love, its full blown romantic relationship. Emmm?? Isn't it's just an *wrong thing to do*. Am I the only one who noticed that? How does it even work?
Anyway, that's time for the Ami Pop Quiz! Finally!
Was it too hard to add a few more checkpoints on the levels? No.
Was it too hard to ask your friend to help you map keys the right way for the PC? No.
Was it too hard to add a few more poses for the sitting characters? No.
Was it too hard to model more stuff for the levels? No.
All of this wasn’t hard at all. It doesn’t cost much money or time, there is no possible excuse why all of this wasn’t done by you. You released a prototype for a game not a finished game. You released a game that costs as much as most AAA games and put less effort in it than most of the indie mobile games. If you don’t care about your game so much, why should fans care? Why would anyone care to play a broken prototype for 80 euros? This is absolutely unacceptable.
I mean, please don't get me wrong. I love your games and I wish they would be successful, but.. seeing how many corners you cut, how much stuff could have been better for such a small amount of work... and I forgave you for all of that in Crystar, but two times in a row.. I am sorry.
I am sorry, but you are a bad game designer.
I am sorry, but you don't deserve these beautiful voice actors who put their heart and soul into this game.
I am sorry, but you don't deserve such an incredible artist who did this stunning, absolutely amazing and beautiful art of the character.
I am sorry, but you don't deserve these beautiful musicians who created such amazing songs for this game.
I am sorry, but there will be no gold star for you.
