Cyber Hook Review (puffle69945)
This was my letter to the devs!
After golding every level, I have a few things to say.
1. The little jump after retracting the hook feels TERRIBLE. It loses a bit of momentum, and you hit your head on things you really shouldn't.
It also makes going down feel disgusting, as you can't gain ANY speed with the hook going down, as you stop midair every time!
I found myself trying to swing myself downwards and just not being able to.
2. Does the character have legs? I keep hitting myself on things it feels I shouldn't be.
To combat this, a thinner hitbox would help, and also only having the torso / upper body able to be killed, while allowing legs to touch teal and yellow boxes making running look and feel the same, while allowing you to thread the needle instead of bonk on things you shouldn't.
3. Wallrunning should not slow down or stop when changing walls, or turning onto a slightly different angle of wall. It just ruins the feel of it.
4. The controls feel shoddy. Space to retract isn't a good idea. Instead, consider changing it to this: Hold left click to hook, release left click to retract, hold space to reel into your hook.
This small adjustment makes the hook feel much more intuitive, and stops you from having to use two fingers to time swings, and leaves you able to hold the spacebar most of the time to reel in.
I never found myself not reeling in anyway, so perhaps it would be best to automatically reel in, and hold space to stop from reeling in.
All in all I had a fun time with this game, the story was like, terrible, but the game itself is fun. Glad I bought it on sale, because I think 30 dollars (Australian) is a bit much for it, but I believe in America it costs 15 dollars, and that sounds like a fair price. Consider lowering the price in countries with currencies worth less.
Adjust some of the controls, remove the jump after retracting the hook, fix wallrunning, and make the hitbox smaller and Cyberhook will truly be the best it could be.
Just remember in a game about momentum, having stuff in your moveset that slows you down (other than bullettime) is a really bad idea. Let the hook swing you, with the double jump to help out. That's all you need.
