Dorfromantik Review (G00N3R)

Dorf Romantik is a tile placement puzzle game where the player will create a rural landscape.
The player is given a supply of hex shaped tiles featuring houses, trees, rivers, lakes, wheat fields and train tracks, and you’ll decide where to place them, ideally matching together tiles of the same type. Some rare tiles have tiny trains, boats, or animals, which will move around the map when placed.
In the classic game mode you have a limited number of tiles, but can earn more by completing quests which ask you to connect a number of the same tiles together, or by making perfect placements where all edges match. Your objective is to earn the highest score possible before you run out of tiles.
Each run should take around 1-2 hours, but unfortunately the simple gameplay mechanics felt a bit repetitive after only a few runs. I also don’t like that the tile generation is completely randomised. I always seem to end up with some blank voids in my map that I can’t fill in because I just never get a tile that fits properly.
There’s also a creative game mode where you have unlimited tiles to expand endlessly without worrying about quests and high scores, although you’re still limited by the random generator and you can’t earn achievements.
Despite my criticisms, I think its fair to say this is a good game that just doesn’t suit my own personal preferences.
