Eastern Exorcist Review (Mendhak)
Really enjoyed this, if you like difficult games, a bit of Souls-like but set in Chinese mythology, this is worth trying.
The environments and artwork are gorgeous and it's the reason I kept playing. You basically play two characters with two different stories in the same region. The characters and the enemies/bosses are all reminiscent of Chinese mythology, it works really well with the artistic backdrops.
I found the difficulty to be quite fair. Even though some bosses or challenges took me up to 20, 30, even 50 attempts, all the skills and items I needed were there and it was doable.
The music goes really well too, it's strong and dangerous during the fights, and there's a constant 'hum' of music as you're travelling across the lands.
The game does have its rough edges; you can sometimes see black outlines around moving parts, and the scenes are sometimes rushed. It's all forgivable and not a huge deal at all.
With the game is a free digital artwork PDF. You need to set the language of the game, in Steam, to Chinese, for it to download. It's worth just scrolling through that, to really appreciate the art styles and efforts that have gone into it.
