Eventide: Slavic Fable Review (Button Eyes)
Eventide: Slavic Fable is a hidden object game by The House of Fables, who I can probably say is my favorite HOG developer in terms of artstyle, as they made really pretty ones. At first I didn't really pay attention to this title since it seems a bit generic, but I eventually gave in and didn't regret it. The story might not be something very special and memorable, but its still pretty fun, and the beautiful artwork helps.
You play as a botanist named Mary, who is visiting her grandma, the curator of a Slavic-themed heritage park to save the endangered fern flower. But she is then kidnapped, and its up to Mary to save her grandma and the flower. You will encounter creatures from Eastern European folklore, both good and bad. There's also some collectible cards that unlocks a bit of trivia about them, even creatures who don't appear in the game.
After you finish the game there's a bonus adventure where you play as Grandma when she was young, set in the same park, even using the same locations, but different as it was in a more pristine state. It's interesting to draw comparison between the two timelines. I think Eventide: Slavic Fable is a pretty good HOG, with beautiful artwork which is a very strong point in my opinion. You might find this game more interesting and relatable if you're Eastern European or familiar with its folklore, or if you're into learning new folklore.
