Exographer Review (Varshyl)
Not bad, it's just not right blend of fun for me. I love puzzles in most MVs and La Mulana 1 & 2 rate rather highly among some of my favorites that somewhat resemble this genre, anyway few points here:
- this is barely a Metroidvania, it's pretty much a puzzle platformer at its core. The tag is a lie. Yes, there are some abilities but they are just basically added puzzle mechanics that you use to solve more puzzles and so on.
- it's pretty mid as a puzzle platformer once the novelty of photography fades. Puzzles aren't even that great. They're just literally playing match a correct piece to point.
- I did appreciate the very scientific lore behind world-building, though!
- map and UI is still pretty clunky playing with a gamepad but fairly playable. Sometimes I'd still have to manually move the cursor over to correfct button and 'click' it. It's also possible to get stuck in some locations due to being able to save at anytime mechanic. This could use some refinement.
Anyway, I suppose this is fine if you're looking for something simple and relaxing as it's definitely true that there's no combat at all.
