Floppy Knights Review (Jackeea)

You know how sometimes in card games, you get That One Turn, where the stars align and you pull off an amazing combo? Where it seems like you're drawing half your deck, gaining a million mana/energy/resources and destroying everything in your path? Well, every single turn seems like that in Floppy Knights.
And they don't even feel stale, or like you're going through the motions, or that you're just winning because you picked an OP card. It takes a bunch of forethought and skill to plan out your god turns. It's easy to mess up because an enemy ended up closer than you thought, or because you misjudged how much damage you'd take, and that's fine. Deaths never feel bullshit or down to RNG, because in the end, it's always been my fault for not checking enemies or misjudging how far they can run.
The setup is par for the course if you've played Dream Quest/Slay the Spire or any deckbuilder. Each turn you draw a hand of 5 cards, each costing some Energy. You start each turn with 5 energy. You move units around in a square-based grid, and have to protect your Commander - a powerful unit that gives you a card each turn. My favourite is Vera, who heals all other units for 1 health each turn, and adds a movement card that also heals units, letting you get a bit more aggressive. The game is split into different locations, each with 4 levels. The first world is your standard tutorial zone, which lays down the basics. The second introduces harder enemies and some more zone-specific hazards; the third is a big contest with a really intriguing set of levels, and so on. The visual design of each stage is absolutely stunning, and the music is a bop as well.
There's also a ton of challenge levels - another 4 for each world - which were pre-designed to offer a challenge that really makes you think outside the box. If you end up falling into a rut and only using a specific deck for a bunch of levels (which I ended up doing...), then the challenges really add a breath of fresh air, as well as giving you some perspective of potential combos you can pull off. It's a lovely diversion and offers some nice food for thought.
Overall, this is a lovely, charming game I can see myself playing a lot of. Well worth checking out if you like card games!
