Golden Lap Review (Baguette)

Motorsport Manager but with no depth

If what you're after is a much quicker and simpler version of Motorsport Manager then this game is perfect, if you're after more or F1 manager levels of depth then you will absolutely not find it here. The description makes it seem like there's a lot more here than there actually is.
The gameplay loop is essentially, new season sign drivers and chiefs, sign sponsor, do initial upgrades, race, upgrades, race, upgrades, race etc etc etc. That's it, there is some interesting moments like a crash can leave drivers in the hospital or someone can turn up with a hangover but they don't really spice up the gameplay much or are related to your actions at all.
The race weekend is just qualifying and the race, for qualifying you send the driver around the track, do Motorsport managers tweaking but without the cards (Literally the EXACT same system except they just don't use cards to viusalize it) and send them around again and again until it's over.
The race is basically MM again, there is no compound rules so you can do as you please with strategy, you get the basic Push settings and Fuel burning and stopping drivers from fighting and that's it, the radio's just pop up the same messages constantly so they aren't very interesting or note worthy. I'm also not sure if fighting actually slows people down, it doesn't seem to make a difference but I don't see why the option is there if not. Traffic also doesn't seem to effect anyone.
You will occasionally get Sponsor Challenges which can vary on difficulty.
I tried the game out to begin with using the Ferrari which is obviously the easiest team but really the only difference in gameplay is where you're fighting until you've got a better car so the most fun you'll get at that point is just trying to undercut/overcut everyone.
There's not much else to really talk about, it's a stripped down very casual Motorsport Manager, it'd be perfect for a mobile game but unfortunatley it's £13 and on Steam.
If you want any depth at all in your game then buy MM or F1 manager, they offer far more depth and interesting gameplay but if you really just want a quick game to relax with then this is definitely one to play, I'd say the price is steep for what's there considering the far cheaper MM game so maybe a sale is worth it however hopefully mods will allow for more varied game play.
I could probably suggest a lot of things I'd love to see added, like actually having to build parts that take time or sustaining relationships with drivers and team members, but it seems like this very very simplistic approach is by design and I wouldn't imagine they'd make any drastic changes considering it's a completed product.
