Gravity Circuit Review (Achilles42X)

Look, I can see that this game is doing it for a lot of people, but I really do not like it, and I'm going to explain why for anyone else who might be looking at the Steam rating and thinking 'well, it must be pretty fun.'
I enjoy very difficult games of all kinds, especially metroidvanias (which this is not, to be clear), but I don't find this to be enjoyable to play, at all. It's kind of flirts with being fun, and there was a minute at the beginning where I thought I might get into it, but I couldn't.
To me, it's just stretch after stretch of tedious platforming interspersed with uninspired combat, where it's not typically clear what the right technique is supposed to be...
For example: you can punch up into a flying enemy, but you'll take contact damage if he's too close to directly above you, so the strategy that avoids damage would be to draw them into a corridor where you can carefully straight punch them when they descend, or scamper around the conveyor belt and its obstacles trying to line up an uppercut that won't inflict self-damage.
So, there's a way to do it, for sure, but it doesn't feel fun. The game is about being very precise with your controls, and while the controls function perfectly well, it is more of a chore than a pleasure. I suspect if you were extremely good at it, it would be satisfying in the same way that playing a musical instrument proficiently is satisfying. For a casual playthrough, you just feel like a clumsy cellist.
Not for me. Don't usually bother with negative reviews, but this is an 'Overwhelmingly Positive' verdict that I'm really scratching my head about. I feel pretty confident in saying that the consensus here is heavily skewed by nostalgia. Which is not to say that this is not a good game- I expect it's very good if these types of classics meant a lot to you.
But I don't think it's even a little bit fun.
