"Bug's Life" meets "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids"... THE VIDEO GAME
I started playing this game pretty much with all cheats enabled, because I wanted to get a feel for it. Within 10 minutes however, I started a new save that was MUCH more survival-based, simply because the world was so fun to explore and I wanted to get the full experience.
This game feels a lot like ARK: Survival Evolved at first, with one of your first goals being the crafting of tools and establishment of a shelter, then figuring out how to stop AVOIDING all of the scary insects and spiders, and actually take them on (on purpose). The story of the game is pretty fun, and while a certain NPC can get pretty annoying at times, it's still a fun ride.
The thrill you get from your first spider take-down (and there are several varieties, meaning you get said thrill several times!) is unbelievable, like taking down a Souls boss for the first time. The combat can get a bit repetitive at times, and by the end of the game your inventory will likely remain constantly half-full of various weapons, simply because so many insects/creatures have very different weaknesses. The combat system has modifiers for basic things (piercing damage, blunt damage, chopping damage, etc.), in addition to 'elemental' damage types (think fire and ice damage, but with much more comical in-game implementation), so you can only be so-prepared to face various threats unless you account for a lot of possible encounters.
The building aspect of the game is a lot of fun. If you want a relatively easy/fast progression, enabling and using your Handy Gnat can let you teleport your possessions AND yourself (claim a bedroll, move it somewhere else with your Gnat, enable 'keep-inventory', die, then respawn wherever your Gnat put the bedroll, even across the map) and you can cheese some pretty tough enemies if you're clever by building, but in the end the game is as hard as you want it to be. I really enjoy all of the customization options, though there are several missing construction shapes that would be really nice to have. Base construction absolutely takes up a good chunk of my play-time, because that's part of the game I really enjoy (Fallout 4, ARK: SE, Return to Moria, Satisfactory, Minecraft, base-building is fun!).
This game has actually made me more likely to take in my surroundings. I've started noticing the small details on the ground a lot more often since diving into this game, such as seeing an interesting mushroom formation and thinking about how a 1cm-tall person could parkour it. Taking walks with my dog has an additional fun aspect because of that!
As for difficulty, as mentioned earlier it's pretty much as hard as you want it to be. Now there are a few things that likely will take a few tries to get through (yes, there is an 'underwater level'), but in the end you can make it as easy or as hard as you want. And if your parkour skills aren't fantastic, well probably start practicing.
Disclaimer: I have only ever played solo.
