Half-Life: Alyx Review (ʟǟֆȶʟɨʋɨռɢքօɛȶ)
The first PC game I ever played was Half-Life right around the time it first came out. I was immediately hooked and I've been gaming on PC's on and off for the better part of my life ever since.
To go from that to THIS...is...holy fuck...MY MIND IS BLOWN!
I spent an hour in the very first area just grabbing stuff and throwing it off the balconey watching crazy hoverships fly around and gigantic alien combine tech hybrids moving about the dystopian city as my jaw dropped to the floor.
I threw a vodka bottle near a sleeping cat and it shattered and the cat freaked out and ran away. I threw a bucket of paint at a pigeon and it flew away and paint splashed everywhere.
I threw a head of lettuce at one of the main characters in the game and he looked at me like WTF are you doing? I'm sorry, I'm just so amazed!
I had no idea the controls worked like this. They slip over your hand and track each one of your fingers with touch so you don't have to push a button to grab things you just reach out and grab it and close your fist.
Plus you have gravity gloves. Fucking amazing!
The first time one of the combine soldiers pointed their gun at me I was SO SCARED! It was NOTHING like anything I've ever experienced in a game before. I felt like someone was pointing a gun at me. I put my hands up. I obeyed. I had chills running down my spine and all over my body!
You have several near death encounters with the combines, these giant aliens fitted with futuristic tech, and each time is so fucking insane. I just stand there in awe like WTF how is this possible?
You can hack stuff with your multitool using holographic minigames. It's so fucking cool. It makes every other attempt at this in any other game look like childs play or even pathetic in comparison.
I could go on and on but I'm going to stop here. This was my first headset VR game I've ever played and I'm so glad that it was. This is gaming on a whole different level. I don't know how I'll ever be able to play a game on a flat screen again.
