Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning - Fatesworn Review (JollySphere246)

While I loved the base game and the other 2 available DLC, this is just disappointing overall.
First I love the original combat system and some of the weapons and how they work are some of my favourites of all time. However the new chaos structure almost makes certain trees useless. Because you have to use chaos weapons to reduce the chaos bar before depleting the enemies health, which reduces things like spells almost useless as until you drain the chaos bar first they have no effect. Also it means you are dependant on the new weapons, making any and all other weapons gained or made before hand completely redundant. Also until the chaos bar has been depleted any staggering effects do not work either. There are several sets of armour that is obtained though the DLC but the fact that you are force to wear a specific one for the end game also makes any other amour also pointless.
With the Story, I loved all the other additions to the base game. I've always loved the fae and how they interact with everything around and how interesting their stories and side quests are. The stone giants are another very interesting addition to the land that I had no issue completing everything as I enjoyed it so much and understanding how they and their land works. Dead kel's main story was good and while the side quests did get abit grindy the faction quests made up for it. However, the story line is not only odd considering the way the main game ends, its also a really unsatisfying ending for you in my opinion. After everything you've been through and done, it's now all your fault. Also with the niskaru, all throughout the main game they are told to be creatures of chaos so it makes sense that they are part of this, but why do they have the chaos barrier now and why are they called chaos niskaru. They were already chaos to begin with.
For completion, as you have to fun this DLC to 100% complete the main game, its tedious and very grindy. Closing the portals is such as a pain that its almost to hard to comment on, you have to fight, close a certain number of rifts to get the portal to open, then you have to run around the portal trying to find the node while constantly fighting. The environments are pretty much all the same and there are no different creatures at all, just niskaru, niskaru lords, trolls, giant spiders, critters and boggarts. Thats it. And after having so many different enemy types throughout the game it just feels sluggish and samey. Another issue is that not only are the chaos portals part of the DLC, they also open ALL OVER THE MAIN MAP. 25 is ALOT.
It's such a shame because everything else, the base game, the other 2 DLCs where so good, this just feels like a last ditch attempt to get some money out of the game. I would never recommend this, even at a discount. If you want it for the 100% completion, as this is the only DLC you have to buy separately and this was one of the main reasons I bought it, I'd strongly suggest you at least read other reviews and see if its something you can bear through.
