Layers of Fear Review (Ted)
Middle thumb here for what is yet another walking sim horror game that doesn't do much different than all the others.
There is a lot of the usual cliches of jump scares, haunted house type environment with a story told through notes found and memories unlocked when you find various items, all pretty standard stuff really.
I did enjoy it for a while and I think I am almost at the end but I have grown tired of the whole walking around until you trigger the next event that plays out. Sometimes you are made to wander aimlessly or even in circles until you trigger the next event that will unlock a door or change the area you are in once you turn around and so on. It can at times feel like a cheap way to get around lazy level design and just throw you into the next area.
Oh and one final thing that almost made it a hard thumbs down, is if you are achievement hunting and want a game to 100% I would probably avoid. It has some really annoying achievements, one of which is that you have to stare at paintings for an hour... like seriously, how much do you want to waste my time? I was going to 100% this game but after realising this and seeing I have to replay it for different endings... no thanks.
If you like this genre there is enough to keep you entertained for a few hours, though I would not get this one at full asking price and would only pick up on sale.
