Lunark Review (animatrix1490)

You have to know what you're getting into with this game, and reading the Steam page and looking at screenshots should tell you, but just to reiterate/re-emphasize: This is *not* a typical platformer. It is one of those slower-paced, rotoscoped, parkour platform games. You can't play it like Mario, you have to play it like (old-school) Prince of Persia, Flashback, Another World/Out of This World, Blackthorne, etc. Much more methodical and animation-based gameplay. I'm a big fan of those games, and that was why I wishlisted and bought this one, but if you're not, you might want to pass.
Mostly the game presented a pretty steady increase in challenge. There were one or two frustrating sections, one of which got patched to be less frustrating (looking at you, spider chase). I liked the story, which had quite a few twists and turns, at least one of which I didn't guess beforehand. The color palettes are gorgeous and I like the cutscene animations. The general platforming animations are a little less "rotoscopey" than I wanted, but I'm one of those weird people who kind of likes how rotoscoping (and/or heavily-referenced animation) looks, and nothing in the game looks bad by any means so this probably won't be an issue for most players. I also felt like, while I would have enjoyed playing maybe one more level, the game overall didn't overstay its welcome or end too quickly--it's a total package. It's not too much of a hassle to get full completion, either.
I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who likes Flashback or any of those other methodical platformers. A solid game.
