Northgard: Vordr, Clan of the Owl Review (Dregon)
This clan has a very interesting and fun mechanic, however, its custom win condition is incredibly difficult against actual players, the one big boon you get is a giant who can eat a ton of damage, which is great until you find that an actual player will just save them for last as by themselves they pose no real threat, the giant is slow and doesn't hit nearly hard enough to actually help you win combat. Not to mention taking a year to spawn in the first place and being super costly to summon. On top of that, you have to decolonize 5 tiles, not 1, not 3, 5! and if you then colonize it yourself or it becomes otherwise colonized, you lose the credit for that tile. you can pick up a few small military buffs for your clan, however, the resistance one doesn't do too much and the offense one is against 1 enemy clan, so if you are fighting multiple, tough luck. Against a clan like stag or any other military its almost impossible when fighting an actual player, maybe if they also don't have military buffs it would be possible. The way I see it, the clan of the owl, while fun until late game, needs a buff from the giant, whether its a taunt effect on him or an aura of resistance+healing I don't really care, heck, make him continually spawn a bunch of small tree units that fight for him at the cost of his health, something to even the odds in combat, and maybe a small boost to decolonization speed too.
Other notes, This clan somewhat struggles to win the race with befriending the neutral groups like the jotunn or the kobold due to not being able to get a permanent growth via scout class units, which is fair as they can do it passively, but also comes with the cost that later game the scouts have a huge tendency to become useless as well as the lore-producing tiles become eaten by other clans, I think giving them an additional effect late game, or an additional job late game would make them far more useful, could even be a situation where the giant gets some buff or effect when they're in the same tile or something.
This clan has a lot of potential and could be really unique and fun, but with its current disabilities late game it's very hard to play with actual players. I love northgard and I want to see it thrive.
Fight on soldiers.
