Papetura Review (Uman Bean)

Papetura is a short game very reminiscent of Amanita's games. It manages to differentiate itself though by taking place in a gorgeous world made of paper based upon paper models. The game's soundtrack was composed by Floex who almost always works with Amanita and man, do his compositions utilizing strings, piano, and some soothing synth bring the atmosphere to life. Papetura is a story about a paper creature trying to stop a corrupt entity from burning down their little world of paper. The game's environments are wondrous, and despite the short run time they have a decent variety of interesting puzzles to occupy you with as you make your way through this brief adventure. Many puzzles make use of a projectile ball to move obstacles, lower a ladder, and eventually fend off corrupted creatures in the final air balloon section. There's also a fun fishing minigame and a pacman-esque puzzle section. Another element of the game was the hint minigame where you had to reach all of the blue dots while avoiding the red enemies which got progressively harder over the course of the game. Finally the story had some heartwarming moments and managed to create relatively distinctive and unique characters without using voice acting and in a short period of time. All in all I would recommend this game on a sale if you are a fan of Amanita games for they have many similarities among their imaginative worlds, beautiful music, fun stories, and engaging puzzles.
