Pixel Ripped 1978 Review (T0X1N)
Have You Played ATARI Today?
If you have played any of the other Pixel Ripped games, you know what to expect here. Playing retro games that come to life inside the 3d realm, only this time you actually walk around inside the game, which is actually very cool! I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this game. However, I can't help but to feel a little disappointed with this iteration.
--- Game Ends Prematurely ---
I felt the game ended abruptly. In the other two Pixel Ripped games, you had to beat a challenging end boss, but here, no. It just ends after a (however cool) game of Dungeons & Dragons. The game kind of lacked in difficulty I feel. There were some areas in the game that were challenging (mainly a few platforming parts), but other than that the game is kind of a breeze. I actually felt that Pixel Ripped 1995 was longer, but I guess not judging from my playtime. But, then again, this game did suck me in (as with all the other Pixel Ripped games) and I was able to beat it within 2 sessions. I feel I could beat this game in one go though.
--- Camera Blackout/Fadeout Effect ---
There was another thing I did not like in this game and that was in the 3d sections, the camera would black out if you did not stand the center of your play area. If you slightly go outside, the camera would black out which was very annoying. I play on a treadmill and leaning in the direction of my walk causes the camera to black out which was a problem. I had to scale the world up a bit via SteamVR settings (135% scaling) just so that the area was bigger so the camera would not black out as much. I wish the developer would just remove this effect, it is absolutely terrible and really broke my immersion at times.
--- Everything Else... ---
Those were mainly the two problems I had with this game. Everything else was great! Playing remixed/"bugged" versions of actual games from the ATARI days with augmented VR was really awesome and gave me so much nostalgia. The soundtrack is great as well (again, like the other Pixel Ripped games). What is more to say about this game other than just go and play this game! It is great fun!
