Postal 2 Review (NasTreeEels)
Their early work, Postal 1, was a little too clunky for my tastes, but when Postal 2 came out in 2003, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically.
The whole game has tight, open ended gameplay, and a new sheen of carefree, whimsical presentation that really gives the game a big boost.
They've been compared to Destructive Creations, the developers of Hatred, but I think RWS are far better at articulating and expressing the tone of their games.
In 2015, RWS released Paradise Lost, a DLC for Postal 2. I think this elevated Postal 2 to be an undisputed masterpiece.
The game is so detailed, most people probably don't look out for secrets and easter eggs, but they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of exploration, and the importance of subtle design, it's also a personal statement about the developers themselves.
